Mozilla Thunderbird is Agile Hokkaido's preferred e-mail client. Why do we recommend it? The most important feature of Mozilla Thunderbird is its cross platform functionality. It is compatible with Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, eComStation and OpenSolaris. Plus Mozilla Thunderbird is secure, customizable and best of all its free. The following e-mail set-up tutorial was created using Mozilla Thunderbird (version 2.0.0.22) on a Windows XP computer but rest assured that the settings below are basically the same for other standard e-mail clients (Microsoft Outlook and Mac Mail) and other operating systems (Mac and Linux). Step 1: Download, install, and open Mozilla Thunderbird. Step 2: Select "Account Settings..." from the "Tools" menu. Step 3: Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)". Step 4: Enter Agile Hokkaido's SMTP settings.
Step 5: Add your account. Enter your account settings. Step 6: Enter your server settings.
Step 7: Close and reopen Thunderbird. Step 8: A "Website Certified by an Unknown Authority" window will appear with the following message: "Unable to verify the identity of condor.agilehokkaido.com as a trusted site." Select "Accept this certificate permanently" and click "OK". Step 9: Click "Write" and compose a small test message. It is a good idea to send this e-mail to another e-mail account that you have access to, so that you can verify that your e-mail is being sent. Hit "Send". Step 10: A "Mail Server Password Required" window will appear. Enter in your password, click the "Use Password Manager to remember this password" checkbox, and click "OK". Step 11: Check the e-mail address you used in Step 9, your test e-mail should be there. Reply to the e-mail you sent yourself, go back to Thunderbird, and click "Get Mail"... voila! Confirmation that you can now send and receive mail. Difficulties are rare. However if it is not working as expected: Review each of the steps given in the tutorial. If the problem persists check your e-mail client settings, check that your ISP isn't blocking the port you are using, and check that your router is properly configured. Please Note: Though Agile Hokkaido is happy to help and advise as possible, it is extremely difficult and time consuming to remotely debug mail clients. Therefore if you believe, for whatever reason, that SMTP, IMAP or POP is unsuitable for your needs, we fully support mail forwarding to an e-mail account of your choosing. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. |
